"We Schools In Action" 2009/10 Highlights

At the January 11th meeting of the Board of Education Mr. James Lombardi, Associate Director, Youth Programming, presented the We Schools in Action 2009-2010 Final Report.  We Day is an initiative by the charity Free the Children which engage young people in volunteerism and taking action to create positive change in their communities (locally) and in the world (globally).

Here is a brief overview of what schools in New Westminster have been able to accomplish in the 2009-10 school year:

  • 9 New Westminster schools experienced We Day Vancouver in person, as well as the free follow-up in-service workshops
  • 6 schools participated in Halloween for Hunger in support of local food banks
  • Over 50 volunteer hours donated and reported by schools in support of their local community
  • 5 schools participated in the Vow of Silence in solidarity with impoverished children worldwide
  • $5,704.85 raised in support of Free the Children and Adopt-a-Village projects oversees
