NWSS Student "Albert Chiu" Excels at Summer Immersion Program

We are pleased to acknowledge the recent achievements of Albert Chiu, one of our NWSS IB students.  Albert recently attended the Summer Immersion Program at the Deep River Science Academy in Deep River, Ontario.  During the six week intensive co-op program, Albert worked on a project titled, "Study of Sample Type and Isotope/Alloy Concentration on TSSD using Deferential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)" and will have his work published in the Academy Journal.

The Summer Immersion Program takes exceptional high school students out of the classroom and places them in a laboratory and/or field setting, immersing the student in a science career.  Throughout the six weeks, students actively participate in the research, perform experiments and report on their research through a poster display, a large, detailed scientific report, as well as an oral presentation which is attended by numerous individuals from the science community.  In addition, students have the opportunity to attend public lectures on various science topics, participate in numerous recreational events, and meet like-minded teens from across Canada!  Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded two high school co-op credits in acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication they put into their projects throughout the summer.

Danielle Martin, Program Director, writes that, "Albert Chiu was a wonderful addition to our program this summer"; and that he was, "an exellent ambassador of School District No. 40".  Congratulations Albert on a job well done.
