This year was the 5th year of the City sponsored Environmental Poster Contest.  Students in grade 5 and 6 were asked to submit posters on "The 3Rs: The Road to Zero Waste".  A total of 284 entries throughout the District were received; the most in the content's history.  First Place winner was Chantelle Bethell, a grade 5 student from Lord Tweedsmuir Elementary Schools (Mr. Weber's class).  Second Place winner was Jody Yat-Ling Chan, a grade 5 student from Lord Kelvin Elementary School (Mrs. Bice's/Mrs. Padda's class).  Third Place winner was Sonia Sarai, a grade 5 student from Lord Tweedsmuir Elementary School (Mme. Prunier's class).  The winning artwork as well as the runners-up artwork will be showcased at the Fraser River Discovery Centre during this year's "RiverFest" celebration at the Quay on September 27/28th.  A big "thank you" to Jennifer Lukianchuk, City Environmental Coordinator, who worked with District staff to bring the contest to our students again this year.  A word of thanks also goes out to all the prize sponsors and the Recycling Council of BC who provided free classroom workshops on this years theme to prior to the contest.
