New Westminster School District Behind Picket Lines on Wednesday, June 11, 2014
The BC Teachers' Federation (BCTF) and the BC Public School Employers' Association (BCPSEA) continue to negotiate a new contract. The BCTF has announced that rotating strikes will continue throughout the province this week. The New Westminster School District will be behind picket lines on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. We will continue to advise parents of any new developments; please monitor local newspapers and radio stations (CKNW 980 and CKWX 1130) for current information.
Principals and Vice-Principals will be in attendance at their respective schools during the strike on Wednesday, June 11th. There will be picket lines at all schools and district buildings and we anticipate that all teachers and support staff will honour these picket lines. There will not be any regular supervision or instructional programs available. With this in mind, I am asking our parents and guardians to find alternate arrangements and not send their children to school on Wednesday, June 11, 2014.
Your patience and understanding during this difficult time is truly appreciated. It is my hope that the labour dispute is resolved quickly and a negotiated settlement can be reached so that each of our wonderful classrooms and programs can return to normal.
