Labour Dispute - Update August 29, 2014

August 29, 2014:  Please follow this link to read a letter from the Superintendent of Schools to all Parents/Guardians regarding an update on the Provincial Labour Dispute.  Please also see a letter from the Board Chair to the Minister of Education and BCTF President.

During the summer, the British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF) and British Columbia Public School Employers' Association (BCPSEA) met sporadically to try to resolve the labour dispute and no agreement has been reached to date.

At the request of the BCTF and BCPSEA, Vince Ready, a well-known and respected mediator in the province of British Columbia, has agreed to help find a resolution to this matter.  Mr. Ready has engaged with both sides in exploratory talks.  Mr. Ready met separately with both parties on August 13th and has agreed to monitor the situation, and to resume exploratory talks or commence full mediation when he believes it will be productive.

The Ministry of Finance has announced the Temporary Education Support for Parents to help with supervision in the event the labour disruption goes into September.  At this point the details on how parents can apply for the temporary support have not been made available.  The Temporary Education Support for Parents is available to the parent or custodian of children under the age of 13 and attending a BC public school.

This website will be regularly updated.  Please check here for new information on the status of the teachers strike/lock out.
