August 31st: Letter to Parent and Guardians

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I am very disappointed to have learned that talks between the British Columbia Teachers' Federation and the British Columbia Public School Employers' Association broke down last night.  Mediator Vince Ready walked away from the table saying that the BCTF and the BCPSEA are too far apart to come to a resolution.

I am asking parents to make alternate arrangements for Tuesday, September 2nd.  Though I have yet to hear from the Ministry of Education or from the BCTF, all indications are that schools will be under picket lines on Tuesday and the picket line could continue for the rest of the week.

Although there is presently an impasse between BCTF and BCPSEA, this labour dispute will end.  I ask you to not give up on public schools or the fabulous educators who work in our schools.

Please monitor our website and the media for more information.

John Gaiptman, Superintendent of Schools
