September 1st: Letter to Parents and Guardians

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I regret to inform you that the British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF) and the British Columbia Public Schools Employers' Association (BCPSEA) were unsuccessful this weekend in reaching a negotiated settlement to end the current labour dispute.  We anticipate that our teachers will not be reporting to work tomorrow and that our schools will be behind picket lines.  Therefore, all schools in the New Westminster School District will not be offering instruction tomorrow.

I recognize the pressure that this puts on families and I am sorry that we will not be starting school as planned.  Nevertheless, we must remain optimistic that we will soon be in a position to welcome our students into the classroom and to have our fabulous educators back in the schools.

I encourage you to regularly check our school district website at for any new developments.

I sincerely thank you for your understanding.

John Gaiptman, Superintendent of Schools
