Teaching and Learning in Diverse Classrooms
The Teaching and Learning in Diverse Classrooms document provides an important blueprint for School District No. 40's actions in moving forward to meet the needs of diverse learners in the classroom.
In the winter of 2015, the Board of Education commissioned the Teaching and Learning in Diverse Classrooms Working Group to engage educational partners in a discussion to inform a strategic district plan focussed on student learning success, especially in the delivery of quality educational programming, to meet the diverse needs of learners in the classroom. The Working Group conducted a literature review of effective educational practices, drafted Belief Statements centred on teaching and learning in diverse classrooms and articulated some draft priorities and action plans for moving forward. As part of this process, two separate "touch back" sessions were held last spring with each educational partner group and an online survey was established in the fall and winter for broader input and feedback.
The resulting document, Teaching and Learning in Diverse Classrooms: A District Blueprint for Learner Success, is the plan for moving forward in the coming school year. This document will be reviewed annually and revised as action plans are implemented and new trends and needs emerge.
